A Song for Marjorie

Marjorie has led a long and active life: from humble beginnings,  she was a talented girl which led her into the education service where she served as headteacher in a local school in a 40-year career.

Now in her retirement, in a care home, she is known for her IT skills and manages social events for everyone. Above all, she remains a Brighton & Hove Albion fan and is 100 in the same year as the Seagulls join the Premier League (almost) as champions!

She is much loved by friends and family who joined in this tribute song as we celebrated her birthday. Photos can be added to your video slideshow: examples have been shown here.

Oh our darling, oh our darling,

Oh our darling, Marjorie

You’ve achieved it,

Can’t believe it,

Born in 1917

Won a scholarship,

To go to Varndean,

Great at science and hockey too!

Loved all children,

So decided,

Davigdor’s the place for you!

Chorus

Mum’s a housemaid for a vicar,

Dad became a railwayman.

From these beginnings,

Such an innings,

40 years your work will span!

First a teacher,

Couldn’t keep her,

In a classroom for too long.

Became headmistress,

Lots of kids have

You to thank for getting on!

Chorus

You’re a super silver surfer,

Sending emails merrily!

Runs the parties

Hale and hearty,

Oldest whizz-kid in IT!

Chorus

Loves the Albion,

What a season!

You’re a dedicated fan.

What a year to be a hundred

And go up as Champions!

Now we’re here to celebrate you!

With your friends and family.

We wish you many years to follow,

You’re our darling, Marjorie

Oh our darling, oh our darling,

Oh our darling, Marjorie

You’ve achieved it,

Can’t believe it,

Here’s to your centenary!!

Here’s to your centenary!!
